Jesus Never Existed

I've known for a long time the historical record of early Christianity, and in particular it's historical savagery against jews, pagans and heretics. What amazes me though, is the success of Christianity in becoming the supreme power of the civilized world and it's evolvement toward a religion of kindness and understanding, and especially in making God so personal that believers feel that God lives within them. Whatever it's background and origins, Christianity has worked well, and that's the main thing. It's the best creed we have of the supernatural, obviously so, because it has survived for over 2,000 years and flourished as the supreme power and creed of civilization, and has been so personally satisfying and fulfilling for countless millions of humans.

Hello Ken. This is quite a website you got here. Interesting articles I might add. Im a fairly openminded person when it comes to religion & faith. Personally I do not believe that Jesus Christ historically existed. I think he was a myth just like the other saviors/godmen before him. And that the bible is not meant to be taken literally, instead, it should be taken as folkore or mythology. Or at the very least, as a metaphore or anothology. But we should realize that we were created from something beyond our understanding...

Ken's new book is not an attempt to "make money" by attacking some ones religious beliefs. Ohter scholars have published works along the same lines -I think that this is what we refer toas freedom of the press, freedom of speech, etc. I just finished a book, published in 2000, written by Gary Greenberg, titled "101 Myths of the Bible". The book presents views very similar to those propose by Ken, to the effect that many stories of the Old Testament are only rehashed Egyptian and Mesopotamian myths. This school of thought goes back to at least the early 1800's, if not earlier. Ken is "boldly going where no man has gone before", by openly publishing his thoughts and theories on the internet. But he is not the first, and probably won't be the last, scholar to present these views to the public. The internet just offeres a wider audience than would probably be available in print form.

As an Arhcaeologist it has always been a disappointment to see how people allow religion, all religions, to taint History. The silence of actual History to the pantheon of religions and in particular the absence of evidence in the archaeological record speaks volumes that remain largely unheeded!

"Raiders of the Lost Pool" message from "a christian who believes that jesus did exist" deleted for excessive length. Wishes to draw our attention to latest "proof of Jesus" at the Pool of Siloam, Jerusalem.
Its that time of year again, folks .....
Message from "from southsidr706" abridged:
dear atheists, why do you say he never existed? How would you know his record does clearly stat he did yet you refuse this record? This man truly did exist and his Words are meat and drink Spirit and life. In him i have been made alive. ... your website is sickening and you speak lies to deceive because you hate good you are blind ... i have HOPE IN CHRIST and i know that i will never die because it is the Spirit that quickens a man.

I think it's pretty damn funny how defencive christians get despite the fact that the overwhelming majority know almost nothing about what they're defending. For instance, ask any christian what their god's name is, and they'll answer Jesus Christ (even though Christ is a title ('the annointed'), not a name). Very few will answer half-correctly: Jehovah. Very rarely would you ever hear a Christian with an understanding of YHWH or Yahweh; The unbelievers actually know more about the beliefs of the believers! They don't even know Jesus' real name!
The Aramaic variant of the Jewish name 'Joshua' was 'Jeshua'. The first mention of this annointed god-man appeared in Greek, which is a language that lacks postalveolar consonants (e.g. 'sh', 'zh'). Even though contemporary Jews have never heard of this mythological saviour, foreign occultist Greeks recorded his name as 'Iesua'. Finally, once the Romans got into the act, the name undergoes its final transformation into the grammatically Romanised 'IESVS'; which became 'Jesus' after the extinction of Latin (as a living language).
If any of you logically challenged 'believers' understood any of the bible's teachings, you'd be scared for you life for partaking in such daily sins as neglect of sacrifice 'for a sweet savour unto YHWH', or using a computer (which is powered by the witch-craft of science; science has made a pact with Satan to deceive people into disbelieving the truth of Yahweh!). Most of you have enough capacity for thought to understand the brainwashing techniques of modern cults; it's about time you looked into the mirror.
